Coding scheme for wireless video transport with reduced frame skipping

چکیده
We investigate the scenario of using the Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) retransmission scheme for two-way low bit-rate video communications over wireless Rayleigh fading channels. We show that during the retransmissions of error packets, due to the reduced channel throughput, the video encoder buffer may fill-up quickly and cause the TMN8 rate-control algorithm to significantly reduce the bits allocated to each video frame. This results in Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) degradation and many skipped frames. To reduce the number of frames skipped, in this paper we propose a coding scheme which takes into consideration the effects of the video buffer fill-up, an a priori channel model, the channel feedback information, and hybrid ARQ/FEC. The simulation results indicate that our proposed scheme encode the video sequences with much fewer frame skipping and with higher PSNR compared to H.263 TMN8.

Joint Source-Channel Coding using Simplified Block-Based Segmentation and Content-based Rate-Control for Wireless Video Transport
The scenario of using Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) retransmission for two-way low bit-rate video communications over wireless Rayleigh fading channels is being studied. In this kind of channel, the packets are inevitably experienced errors during deep fades. The retransmissions can be used to re-sent such packets. During retransmissions, the video encoder buffer fills up quickly and may cause...
متن کاملOptimal Bit Allocation for MPEG-4 Video Coding
In this paper, we propose an optimal bit allocation scheme for MPEG-4 video coding. In the proposed scheme, we assign more bits to I-frames and some selected P-frames. In order to decide optimal target bits for each intra frame, we need to calculate spatial complexity of the intra frame. We also define an absolute temporal correlation factor to measure temporal correlation between successive fr...

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...

متن کاملDynamic region of interest transcoding for multipoint video conferencing
This paper presents a region of interest transcoding scheme for multipoint video conferencing to enhance the visual quality. In a multipoint video conference, usually there are only one or two active conferees at one time which are the regions of interest to the other conferees involved. We propose a Dynamic Sub-Window Skipping (DSWS) scheme to firstly identify the active participants from the ...
